Fire suppression / detection

Secure IT Environments work with a number of fire suppression suppliers offering a full range of suppression and detection solutions for modular data centres. Speed of detection is crucial and our systems utilise high-specification open digital communications - 'Discovery,' this state-of-the-art fire detection, provides the user with a flexible intelligent fire detection capability, adaptability to changing data centre build conditions and immunity to false alarms.

Suppression options are multiple and depending on your requirement we can provide: Novec, which has an ozone depletion of zero and a global warming potential of 1 (equal to Co2) and has an atmospheric lifespan of five days or less this type of gas is now the preferred suppression system of choice. Alternative suppression systems include: Inergen, Argonite and Water Mist. More recently the oxygen reduce system has become increasingly popular.

For fire detection within the data centre, optimised detection and VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection System) detection is the preferred option. VESDA smoke detectors are designed to generate multiple alarms within the earliest stages to reduce the extent of fire loss within your modular data centre. More recently the OxyReduce system has become increasingly popular, which extinguishes fire by diluting the oxygen level to between 12% and 14%.

We advise on individual data centre solutions basis on the required level of fire protection and suppression which is specific to each installation.

Northampton NHS Trust
Northampton General Hospital wanted to become more energy efficient enabling it to increase capacity and start to future proof the data centre infrastructure for the increased demands of modern computing. The project was for a 2nd data centre rather than replace the existing  DC as it is in constant use.
Queen Elizabeth Hospital
The new data centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn was designed to house the authorities core network switches, servers and storage along with the local passive LAN cabling which would leave room for future expansion and capacity.
Guys & St. Thomas NHS Trust
Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Trust used available space in their underground car park for their new external modular data centre. This project, complete with full infrastructure was built to ensure maximum security due to the facility being open to the public and with flood proofing due to the close proximity to the River Thames.
